The good news about injustice is that God is against it.

God is in the business of using the unlikely to bring about justice and mercy. In Good News About Injustice, Gary Haugen offers stories of courageous Christians who have stood up for justice in the face of human trafficking, forced prostitution, racial and religious persecution, and torture. Throughout he provides concrete guidance on how ordinary Christians can rise up to seek justice throughout the world.

This landmark work, featuring newly updated statistics, is now part of the IVP Signature Collection, which features special editions of iconic books in celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of InterVarsity Press. A five-session companion Bible study is also available.

When this book by Haugen (founder and CEO, International Justice Mission) was first published in 1999, it served as a kind of prophetic challenge to Christians, calling them to confront such realities as human trafficking, persecution, and torture experienced by poor and vulnerable people in the developing world. Haugen drew upon his personal experiences to expose readers to specific examples of horrific experiences faced by vulnerable people. This new edition of the book, with updated statistics, introduces a new generation of readers to Haugen's powerful argument. He confronts Christians with the Biblical and theological idea that God's justice focuses directly on the present; God suffers with those who are victimized, actively works to confront injustice, and calls the church and individual Christians to join in this struggle as well. The book has three parts: the first discusses the challenge and offers three examples of leaders who successfully confronted oppression; the second addresses the character of God as that of justice; and the third suggests practical ways Christians can participate in confronting injustice. VERDICT Christians in general and ones specifically concerned about social justice will find this book to be almost essential reading.--John Jaeger, Johnson Univ., Knoxville, TN
