Our advertising partners • A special thanks to the advertising partners that have made a long-term commitment to FLM.
From the publishing editor • This issue is filled with love. Love of our coastline, sustainability, thoughtful makers, entrepreneurs, destinations, excellence in design, music, art and nature.
Home is where the heart is • This year’s Fleurieu Food Festival 2025 was better than ever. During her launch event speech, food and wine journalist and festival ambassador Katie Spain told us why. We have included it here because we were struck by the ease with which Katie expressed her love for this region.

Stone, steel and soul • Tucked away in the backstreets of Willunga, what was once a humble three-bedroom home has been transformed into a coastal retreat, one that balances material honesty with timeless warmth.
Carly Tarkari Dodd • Kaurna, Narungga and Ngarrindjeri artist and curator, Carly Tarkari Dodd recalls the moment when art and making started to take on a deeper meaning for her. She was at Camp Coorong near Meningie with her family. It was there she met Ngarrindjeri artist Aunty Ellen Trevorrow, a world-renowned cultural weaver.
About face • Celebrating the creative forces shaping community, art, design, wellbeing and connection in our region.

Small Circle, big vision How Kieren Kuzyk is redefining salon culture and creative co-ops • It’s the summer of 2024, and I’m strolling the quiet backstreets of Port Elliot when I spot a striking new building on Elliot Street. A sleek, industrial-style warehouse tucked next to Yeo House, just a stone’s throw from the ever-busy Factory 9 precinct and only eight-hundred metres from the café strip of The Strand.
Saltwater soul • American River on Kangaroo Island was named by American sealers in the early 1800s, mistaking the long inland channel for a river. It’s here you’ll find Kangaroo Island Oysters – a family-run business owned by Todd and Marisa Packer and managed by their son, Jack.

Fresh destinations • The Fleurieu Peninsula has long been a hub of bold ideas and fresh beginnings. In recent times, a wave of new, relocated and reimagined businesses is breathing new life into this already vibrant region – each one a testament to the enterprising spirit that thrives so well here. From boutique distilleries to unique cafés, these ventures blend creativity with community, reshaping the local landscape while staying rooted in what makes this region so special.
Layers • As I enter Ashley Bastian’s home studio, my eyes are drawn immediately to a collection of large vases on the opposite wall. Their textured, raw surfaces make a strong statement against the modern aesthetic of her home.
Indulge in Fleurieu fare • We’re incredibly fortunate to live in a region abundant with skilled growers and passionate producers. Fresh, local and thoughtfully crafted products are readily available through local retailers, farmers markets and...
