Winter Wonderland

The Cottage Journal • Volume 17, Issue 4

A COZY CHRISTMAS • For years now, so many of us have been inspired by the life, blog, and decorating of Liz Marie Galvan. Known for her take on cozy style, she has authored books, developed a collection with QVC, and become one of the most influential voices in the blogging world. We wanted to learn more about how Liz spends the holiday season, so we sat down for a few questions.

SANTAS GALORE • I love collecting all kinds of Santas, especially the older ones, and displaying them throughout my home. Here are some of my favorites!

Small Town Friendly • LS Mercantile Co.—a creative endeavor of using what’s torn, tattered, and old not to change its story but to tell its history.

What We Collect • This time around, we asked our contributors, followers, and friends what they collect for the holiday season.

Byers’ Choice Carolers • It all began in the late 1960s from the creative spark of Joyce Byers.

CRAFT, FIRE, & FEAST • Stissing House, an 18th-century tavern turned restaurant in Pine Plains, New York, has been welcoming guests for more than two centuries. Today, Chef Clare de Boer keeps its fires burning with an easy approach to hospitality. Each December, Craft Feast fills the old rooms with makers, antiques, food, and a little holiday revelry.

WINTER at HOTEL LILIEN • For generations, families have headed to the Catskills for snowy weekends and days on the mountain. In Tannersville, New York, Hotel Lilien offers a comfortable new take on that old winter tradition, all inside a house that has been welcoming visitors for more than a century.

KEEPSAKE BY FORESTBOUND • Forestbound (@forestbound) was one of the first American-made brands I was introduced to whose creator felt close to my age. I first worked with her in 2011 when she was created American-made tote bags from antique tarps and canvases.

A Year at Bovina Farm and Fermentory A FEAST FOR ALL • Every season, we visit our friends at Bovina Farm and Fermentory in the western Catskills for a bit of escape into the bucolic world they’ve created. Last Christmas, Brett and I attended their Holiday Feast, a dinner we will wax poetic about for years to come. Bovina’s owners, Elizabeth and Jake, share more about how they envision the season…

WINTER Hobbies • The winter season provides time for slow hobbies and interests, for Nicki Franklin that means stitching, needlework, and spending time by the fire.

A GENTLEMAN FARMER’S HOLIDAY FAVORITES • This holiday season, we wanted to share a few of our favorite giftable finds. Brett Whitt (@agentlemanfarmer) selected these from shops and makers we love.

DESIGNED in BRITAIN, MADE in the USA • For decades, Nina Campbell’s furniture has brought the comfort and character of traditional British decorating to interiors around the world.

A COTTAGE CHRISTMAS • This holiday season, GreenRow is embracing a more personal approach to decorating.

Main Street Merriments • Little houses, streetlights, bells, sleighs, snowballs, and more adorn this collection of timeless Christmas ornaments created by Eddie Ross.

A Hand-Painted CHRISTMAS • Around my house, it is a constant stream of creativity, and that’s the only way I would have it. For years, my friend Terri Minton (@terri_minton) and I have hosted workshops, markets, events, and simple gatherings with friends at my house, always with the goal of celebrating handmade.

CRAFTING CHRISTMAS • This time of year, Landon McAfee relys heavily on his right...
